Sumilon Island

In Cebu, Philippines

Sumilon Island which means “take refuge” is 125 kilometers away from Cebu City and almost 20 kilometers to Dumaguete City. The island area is 24 hectares which is surrounded by crystal clear waters with 39-hectare of marine sanctuary. It is the first marine protected area in the Philippines which was made a fish sanctuary in 1974 under the guidance of Siliman University Marine Reserve. This is also where we spend our honey moon after our wedding. A very romantic and memorable place.

The tourist can relax while waiting for the boat ride going to Sumilon Island at their Oslob Sumilon Resort Dock.

From Bancogon, Oslob in Cebu Province, a 15 minute boat ride will take you to the breathtaking beautiful small island of Sumilon.

Here are some of the resort and island pictures.

The Beach Shore

The Sandbar - A popular attraction in Sumilon Island because of its changing shapes and shifting locations around the island depending on the season.

The natural mangrove lagoon

The swimming pool

The resort features amenities such as organized island tours, biking, windsurfing, trekking, scuba diving, snorkeling and deep sea dives.

Playing Billiards

Playing Sungka, a traditional Philippine mancala game. The oblong game board (sungka-an), which is usually carved in wood (e.g. mahogany), consists of two rows of seven small pits each and at either end a large store (bahay) for the captured stones.

Did you know at that time we have some bloopers. We did not know that this place is a 3-hour bus ride from Cebu city. We thought this is just around the corner of the city which we can reach thru a taxi cab. We were surprise that it is quite far from what we expected. We went to Cebu South Bus Terminal which was overcrowded with people and waited for a couple of hours to board the bus. On the bus, we were seated at the additional improvised chair in the middle for the first 2 hours of travel. Uncomfortable… Hehehe… it is quite a challenge. Nevertheless when we reach the place, we were energized again because the place is very wonderful. Everything is worth it "SULIT", with all the challenges we experience going to this place.

These pictures show our travel thru – Plane, Bus, and Boat.

How to get there?

From Cebu City, ride bus going to Oslob which will take about 3 to 4 hours. Get off at Sumilon resort entrance then ride a 15 min boat ride going to Sumilon Island.

Or include with the resort package the pickup service to/from Airport in Cebu or Dumaguete.
